Career and Professional Development Seminars
The PDA Seminar Committee plans weekly seminars, an annual mentoring roundtable and other career and professional development events. By working with other BSD groups and myCHOICE, the PDA Seminar committee is able to hold joint events across a variety of fields.
Research Mentor Training for Postdocs
In 2015, the PDA Seminar committee, with guidance from trained facilitators Nancy Schwartz, Dean for Postdoctoral Affairs, and Eric Beyer, MD, PhD, Professor in Pediatrics and co-leader of the ITM Education Cluster, established this training program for postdocs.
Postdocs meet two times per quarter during the academic year to discuss case studies in small groups and in a facilitated larger group discussion. The curriculum comes from the University of Wisconsin Research Mentoring Trainng Core and covers these topics:
- Maintaining effective communication
- Aligning expectations
- Assessing understanding
- Addressing equity and inclusion
- Fostering independence
- Promoting individual development
Postdocs who complete all 6 workshop sessions over the course of two years will receive a Research Mentor Training completion certificate. Sessions run from October to June each year.
