PDA Seminar Series: Postdoc Research Seminars

Postdoc Research Seminars

All are welcome to join us to support and network with BSD postdocs, enjoy a slice of pizza, and learn about exciting science happening in the BSD. Please RSVP below.

Date & Time:
Wednesday, May 14 at 3:00 PM

Location:
BSLC 008

Speakers:
Dr. Richa Agrawal: “Decoding Electromechanical Coupling in the Shaker Potassium Channels”
Dr. Richa Agrawal is a postdoctoral scholar in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Her research focuses on the structural biology of voltage-gated potassium ion channels, using cryo-electron microscopy to resolve their structures. She is currently investigating electromechanical coupling mechanisms in the Shaker potassium channel.

Dr. Madeline Rollins: “Towards the structure of multipass folding intermediates using cryo-ET
Dr. Madeline Rollins is currently a postdoctoral researcher at UChicago in the Keenan Lab in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Her research focuses on using cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET) to characterize the structure and assembly of ribosome-associated protein complexes involved in membrane protein biosynthesis at the endoplasmic reticulum. Dr. Rollins completed her PhD at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, where she investigated how poxviruses remodel ribosome structure and alter host protein synthesis during infection.

Dr. Walid Mawass: “Investigating the impact of residual confounding bias on the application of PGS tests”
Dr. Walid Mawass is an evolutionary geneticist with expertise in quantitative and population genetics. His work explores how natural selection shapes complex traits and population outcomes. He has studied life-history evolution in historical human populations, the role of beneficial mutations in small population persistence, and currently investigates biases in polygenic score analyses and the effects of background selection in natural populations. He is currently a postdoctoral scholar in the Berg Lab in the Department of Human Genetics.
